The Detroit Pistons (19-34) led by Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson’s double doubles, defeat the slumping Phoenix Suns (20-31) 116-108.

The Phoenix Suns suffered six defeats in the last eight games and are on a three-game losing streak. After the most recent road loss to the Brooklyn Nets, the Suns dropped to a 20-30 record and are in 11th place in the Western Conference.

The Detroit Pistons are also not playing well lately. They managed to snap a five-game losing run with a surprising home win over the Denver Nuggets, but the Pistons lost the following game to the Memphis Grizzlies on the road. The Pistons now dropped to an 18-34 record and are in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

These inter-conference rivals met twice last season, and the Pistons won both encounters. Detroit was better in eight of the previous nine H2H duels.

The Suns struggled in the second half in a loss to the Nets
Phoenix scored only 45 second-half points and allowed 64 in a 119-97 road defeat to the Brooklyn Nets, the Suns’ third straight loss. The Suns couldn’t get the things going offensively in the third quarter as they shot miserable 37.5% from the field and let Brooklyn make 61.9% of their shots on the other end. The visitors made only six triples opposite the Nets’ 15. Deandre Ayton led the Suns with a double-double of 25 points and game-high 17 rebounds, along with team-high five assists, and two blocks. Kelly Oubre Jr. added 21 points and five boards, while Mikal Bridges had 12 points, six rebounds, game-high four steals, and two rejections. Frank Kaminsky (knee) is out indefinitely. Aron Baynes (hip), Tyler Johnson (knee), Dario Saric (ankle), Cameron Johnson (quad), and Ty Jerome (calf) are listed as questionable to face Detroit.

“We just lost a bit of our poise tonight,” Suns coach Monty Williams said. “It was a three-point game at the half and we didn’t make shots in the third.”

This season, the Suns have the 13th offense in the NBA that averages 112.6 points per game, and they are facing the Pistons’ 17th defense that allows 111.3 points per contest. The Suns are the 21st in rebounds with 43.7 and 2nd in assists with 26.9 per game.

The Pistons were woeful from the floor in a loss to the Grizzlies
Detroit produced one of the worst offensive displays of the season in a 96-82 road loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. The Pistons scored just 29 points in the second half and shot under 35.0% from the field, and despite they scored eight triples opposite Memphis’ two, the Pistons suffered a deserved defeat. Andre Drummond led Detroit with a double-double of 25 points and game-high 18 rebounds, along with four assists. Christian Wood contributed with 17 points, five boards, two steals, and two blocks, Langston Galloway also scored 17, while Bruce Brown finished the game with 12 points and seven rebounds. Blake Griffin (knee) and Luke Kennard (knee) are out indefinitely. Derrick Rose (groin), Markieff Morris (hip), and Svi Mykhailiuk (hip) are listed as questionable to take on the Suns on Wednesday.
“It just seems like he was getting knocked around and banged around,” Detroit coach Dwane Casey said. “And again, it’s sad that officials don’t reward size and physicality.”

This season, the Pistons have the 22nd offense in the NBA that averages 108.8 points per game, and they are facing the Suns’ 21st defense that allows 113.9 points per contest. The Pistons are the 27th in rebounds with 42.5 and 14th in assists with 24.1 per game.
